CALYPSO — Steady rainfall throughout Wednesday evening and Thursday morning prompted North Duplin athletic officials to postpone senior night celebrations scheduled for today against Hobbton.

Instead, the Rebels entertain the Wildcats in girls’ soccer, baseball and softball next Monday.

Each contest starts at 7 p.m.

Baseball

North Duplin (17-3 overall) enters its regular-season finale with a share of the Carolina 1A regular-season championship at stake.

The Rebels are tied with Rosewood atop the league standings at 8-1. If both teams win, a coin flip will determine the No. 1 seed for next week’s conference tournament. The single-elimination event begins Tuesday.

Second-year ND head coach Colton Chrisman will recognize four seniors — Richard Noble, Erik Rosas, Tyler Johnsey and Billy McCoy.

Softball

Lilly Fulghum threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout as North Duplin secured its third straight Carolina 1A regular-season crown with an 18-0, mercy-rule thrashing of Rosewood.

Fulghum logged eight strikeouts in the scorebook.

The Rebels (14-2) secured the conference’s automatic bid to the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs. First-round games begin May 9.

Second-year ND head coach Jaime Kylis will recognize two seniors — Barton College signee Kasey Jones and Adaisha Bernal. Bernal endured a season-ending ACL/MCL injury to her left knee.

Girls’ soccer

North Duplin (4-11-0) seeks its fourth conference win of the season against regular-season champion Hobbton.

The high-scoring Wildcats (15-1-1) won the previous meeting, 9-0, in early April.
