WILSON — Tyler Odom scattered three hits over six innings and helped Southern Wayne upend league-leading Hunt, 6-3, in their Quad County 3A baseball affair Tuesday evening.
Odom permitted two earned runs, issued five walks and retired four Warriors on strikeouts. The left-hander (5-2) claimed his third straight win on the bump.
Hayden Waller earned his first career save with one inning of two-hit, one-strikeout relief.
The Saints’ defense backed up Odom and Waller with an error-free effort. Ferrell recorded six putouts, while Drew Sweet logged five putouts.
Scoreless through four innings, Southern Wayne seized a 4-0 lead in the top half of the fifth inning. Hunt trimmed the deficit in half, but allowed two runs in the sixth.
Odom, Waller (RBI), Sweet (two RBI), Cuyler Daly and Brayden McKee recorded one hit apiece. Zack Aman stole a base.
Southern Wayne (13-5 overall, 7-4 QCC) snapped a four-game skid against Hunt, which dropped to 14-5 overall and 9-2 in league matters. Weather permitting, the Saints travel to South Johnston on Thursday.
Softball
WILSON — Southern Wayne erased an eight-run deficit over the final three innings and turned back Hunt, 11-10, on Tuesday evening.
“A huge comeback win,” SW head coach Andy Sullivan said.
Indeed.
The Warriors led 10-2 through four innings.
The Saints pushed across a combined 10 runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to pick up their sixth QCC win of the season.
Mckenzie Strickland (RBI), Gracie Hinson (two RBI) and Morgan Brimberry (two RBI) pounded out two hits apiece.
Winning pitcher Reagan Stribble, Laura Summerlin and Kylie Barwick (two RBI) each supplied one hit.
Stribble surrendered 10 runs (six earned) on 15 hits, walked one and collected four strikeouts. The right-hander threw 84 strikes during her 116-pitch outing.
Southern Wayne (8-9) visits defending QCC champ South Johnston on Thursday. The Trojans (17-1) have given up just nine runs in 11 conference games this season.
