DUDLEY — Reagan Stribble logged 16 strikeouts inside the circle and Southern Wayne hung on to defeat East Wake, 5-4, in a Quad County 3A softball contest Tuesday evening.

Stribble yielded nine hits, four runs and issued six walks during her complete-game effort.

“We battled it out for the win,” said first-year SW head coach Andy Sullivan, whose team halted a three-game skid.

Southern Wayne (7-8 overall) held three-run leads on two occasions, only to see East Wake (3-8, 2-6 QCC) close to within one both occasions. The Saints’ defense recorded outs at pivotal times and claimed their fifth QCC win after nine tries this season.

Stribble, Gracie Hinson (four RBI), Mckenzie Strickland (RBI) and Jocelyn Bond collected two hits apiece. Makayla Smith batted 1-for-1.

Southern Wayne bounced back from a disastrous third inning and turned a two-run deficit into an 11-4 triumph over East Wake on Tuesday evening.

A defensive miscue and a pair of run-scoring doubles into the gaps helped the Warriors seize a 4-2 lead in the top of third inning.

The Saints (11-5 overall) responded with a seven-run outburst and ended a frustrating three-game skid in conference play.

Alex Ferrell homered and Cuyler Daly (3-for-4) knocked in a career-high five RBI on the night. Ferrell finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base.

Tyler Odom (RBI), Jake Coates and Hayden Waller (RBI) provided two hits apiece. Waller swiped two bases.

Brayden McKee batted 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Odom claimed the mound win. The left-hander permitted four unearned runs on seven hits, issued three walks and posted three strikeouts in five-plus innings of work.

Ferrell hurled 1 1/3 innings of one-hit, one-strikeout relief.

Southern Wayne returns home Friday for a QCC outing against West Johnston. The JV game starts at 4 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
