DEEP RUN — This time Southern Wayne had the big inning.
The Saints erupted for 10 seventh-inning runs and knocked off South Lenoir, 11-7, on Tuesday evening.
Drew Sweet (two RBI) crushed his first home run of the season — his only hit against the Blue Devils.
Hayden Waller (RBI), Alex Ferrell and Cuyler Daly (RBI) contributed two hits apiece. Dylan Daniels (three RBI), Brayden McKee (RBI) and Jake Coates (RBI) each had one hit.
Tyler Odom and E’lla Boykin each supplied an RBI.
Ferrell started on the mound and worked 3 2/3 innings. He gave up six runs (three earned) on five hits, walked three and struck out one.
Odom (3-2) earned the win in relief. The southpaw tossed 3 1/3 innings of five-hit, four-strikeout relief. The Blue Devils tallied an earned run.
Southern Wayne (10-5 overall) snapped a four-game skid. The Saints return home Apr. 18 for a Quad County 3A contest against East Wake. Game time is 6 p.m.
