BENSON — Senior third baseman Gracie Hinson provided Southern Wayne’s lone RBI during a 13-1, mercy-rule loss against Quad County 3A softball foe West Johnston on Friday evening.
Hinson, Reagan Stribble, Laura Summerlin and Morgan Brimberry collected one hit apiece for the Saints. Stribble stole two bases.
Southern Wayne tallied its lone run in the third inning.
The Wildcats swatted three run home runs against Stribble, who worked all four innings inside the circle. She walked one batter and posted two strikeouts during her 69-pitch outing.
West Johnston remained tied atop the QCC standings with county arch rival South Johnston at 6-0. The two teams have combined to allow just one run in conference play this season.
The Saints (6-6 overall, 4-2 QCC) return home Tuesday to face county arch rival Charles B. Aycock (7-4) in a pivotal conference battle. The teams are tied for third in the conference.
