CALYPSO — Addy Higginbotham went “yard” for the third time in the past two games and Lilly Fulghum belted a solo home run during North Duplin’s 14-3 conquest of Carolina 1A softball Rosewood on Thursday evening.
Higginbotham cleared the fence in the third inning. The sophomore ended the day 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Fulghum (2-for-3, RBI) smashed a lead-off, solo home run to start the fourth.
Senior catcher Kasey Jones batted 3-for-3 with two RBI. Sarah Tucker contributed two hits, scored three runs and stole three bases. Riley Hatch, Marisa Bernal (RBI) and Reece Outlaw contributed one hit apiece.
Rosewood touched Fulghum for three runs in the first inning.
But Fulghum settled down and silenced the Eagles’ bats. She retired 11 of the final 13 hitters she faced and logged eight strikeouts in the scorebook.
Freshman Hayley Bedford paced Rosewood with two hits. Sophomore Katlyn Vernon batted 1-for-3, while senior Skylar Lassiter ended up 1-for-2.
North Duplin (8-1 overall, 3-0 Carolina 1A) claimed its sixth consecutive victory against Rosewood. However, the Eagles lead the series 15-7 since 2011.
The Rebels return home Monday to face Jones Senior. First pitch is 6 p.m.
