CALYPSO — North Duplin tossed another no-hitter.
Erik Rosas logged a career-high 17 strikeouts and propelled the Rebels past Lakewood, 3-0, on the Carolina 1A baseball scene Thursday evening. The right-hander faced just one batter over the minimum for a seven-inning game.
The Rebels filed their fifth “no-no” of the season.
Lakewood pitcher Kollin Hunter drew a lead-off walk in the top of the first inning. Rosas induced the Leopards into three groundouts — all to freshman third baseman Garris Warren, who gunned down each runner at first base. Tyler Johnsey posted three putouts.
Center fielder Tanner Kornegay tracked down a third-inning flout.
North Duplin grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Hunt Pate drew a lead-off walk, stole second and third base and scored on a wild pitch. Kornegay (2-for-3) reached on a two-out walk, stole second, stepped to third on a walk to Wesley Holmes and touched the plate on a wild pitch.
Richard Noble trotted home on a third-inning single from Kornegay, who concluded the game with five stolen bases. He joins Warren in the NC High School Athletic Association record book for SBs in a single game.
Catcher Austin Duff and left fielder Brady Byrd provided one hit apiece.
North Duplin (8-2 overall, 2-0 Carolina) extended its regular-season conference win streak to nine and is 18-0 against Lakewood since 2008. The Leopards have scored just one run in 21 innings during their last three meetings.
The Rebels visit Union next Tuesday.
