CALYPSO — Reece Outlaw swatted two home runs during North Duplin’s 18-4, mercy-rule thrashing of Carolina 1A softball rival Lakewood on Thursday evening.

Outlaw stole two bases and collected three RBI for the Rebels, who are 18-1 against conference opposition since 2021.

Addy Higginbotham batted 3-for-4 with an RBI and stole two bases.

Iala Overton (two RBI), Lilly Fulghum, Adaisha Bernal and Diana Santibanez (RBI) provided two hits apiece. Kasey Jones, Riley Hatch, Sarah Tucker and Ady Spence each collected one hit.

Fulghum emerged as the winning pitcher.

The right-hander scattered six hits, walked three and sat down five Leopards on strikeouts. Lakewood (3-6 overall, 0-2 Carolina) hit just one ball out of the infield and grounded into an inning-ended double play in the second.

The Rebels rose to 18-0 against the Leopards since 2014.

North Duplin (6-1, 1-0) visits Union next Tuesday.
