GOLDSBORO — James Cabrera prevailed in two distance events during a three-team Neuse Six 2A outdoor track meet held at Eastern Wayne High School on Wednesday afternoon.

Cabrera won the 1,600-meter run in 4 minutes, 40 seconds. He came back later to take the 3,200 in 10:14.

John Gonzalez captured the 800 in 2:39.

Bertin Avila finished second in the 400 with a time of 59.8. Teammate Nathan Jackson took second in the long jump (33 feet, 4 inches).

James Hernandez placed third in the 3,200 in 13:08.

Jacob Lynch (110 hurdles), Gavin Canale (300 hurdles), Benny Gonzales (800) and Christian Lopez (discus) each wound up fourth in their respective events.

The Gators claimed the 4×1, 4×2 and 4×8 relays, and finished second in the 4×2.

On the girls’ side, Jenna Slye won the 400 run in 1:08.

Jacqueline Bravo-Pere topped the field in the 3,200 (16:46) and ended up third in the 800 in 3:22.

Elizabeth Taylor emerged as the runner-up in the 1,600 and third during the 3,200. Senior Carmen Montoya secured third in the shot put (28-2.5) and discus (69-11).

Maria Melchor was second in the 800 and fifth in the long jump.

Sarah Gurley placed fourth in the 100.

The Gators were second in the 4×2 and 4×4 relays, and third in the 4×1.
