GOLDSBORO — Regional qualifiers Jy’Asha Cousins and Ta’Niyah Glaspie combined to win three individual events during a multi-team, outdoor track meet contested at Eastern Wayne High School Monday.

Cousins claimed the 100-meter hurdles race in 15.8 seconds.

Glaspie swept the 100 and 200 dashes.

Mia Glaspie-Leach, coming off a state-qualifying effort in women’s wrestling, topped the field with a first-place time of 1:08.2 in the 400-meter run.

Olivia Ruiz and teammate Edith Artega posted an identical first-place time of 3:22 in the 800 run. Ameya Randolph won the 300 hurdles (53.4). Angel Harmon took second in the 200 (27.7) and third in the 100 (13.0) dash events.

Iyanah Southerland claimed third in the shot put with a mark of 26 feet, 6.5 inches. Sophia Marshall placed third in the discus (73-3).

The Saints won the 4×1 and 4×2 relays, and tallied a meet-high 168 points.

On the boys’ side, Skervenson Aphael wound up second in the 400-meter run and fourth in the 110 hurdles. Jymeer Jones earned third in the 400, while Malachi Bass secured fourth.

Bass placed second in the high jump (19-5).

Jeremy Whitley (300 hurdles) and Manesse Remedor (800) each finished second. Adam Cain was second in the discus (105-10) and Jaylyn Bowden emerged as the runner-up in the 200.

The Saints ended up second in the 4×2 and 4×8 relays.

Southern Wayne travels to Quad County 3A rival West Johnston today.
