Kenny Talton remains mayor of Mount Olive.
Canvassing of the election votes at the Wayne County Board of Elections showed provisional votes for Mount Olive as one additional ballot favoring Talton against his challenger, J. Jerome Newton. The final result is Talton 355, Newton 343.
A total of 15 provisional votes were cast.
Certification of the election is not until June 15, one day after the commissioners’ regularly-scheduled meeting.
Delreese Simmons and Tommy Brown will be installed as Mount Olive commissioners at the July meeting. Simmons defeated incumbent Harlie Carmichael 134-85, while Brown unseated Dennis Draper, 124-62.
Carmichael and Draper were each seeking their third term.
