An Apex man faces 165 counts of identify theft after stealing a credit card that belonged to a Wayne County couple.
On Jan. 24, the couple filed an identity theft report with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. They reported that their personal information had been used to open numerous bank accounts, phone accounts and credit card accounts in the Raleigh area.
An investigation revealed that the offender attempted to open more than 30 accounts and completed over $65,000 in fraudulent transactions.
Authorities from the Apex Police Department arrested 31-year-old Gary Len Pauley Jr., of 3240 Broadstone Way, Apex.
Pauley was on probation for a larceny conviction in April when he was arrested on the local charges May 24. He also faces three counts of identity theft, two counts of obtaining property through a false pretense and one count of attempting to obtain property through a false pretense in Franklin County.
In Wake County, he’s charged with obtaining property through a false pretense and financial card theft.
Officers booked Pauley into the Wake County Detention Center under an $825,000 secured bond.
