Fans were treated to a nail biting showdown as the Saints and Cougars battled into overtime, with the Saints ultimately pulling out a 32–26 victory. The Pre-Game Interview with Coach Stephan Allard was impactful. He acknowledged this was a rivalry and planned to keep the team poised and morale high during the game because this one would be a big test. In the county, bragging rights were also on the line.

Saints strike early, Cougars respond quickly

The Saints wasted no time making an impact. A big return by No. 2 Jaylen Carr set the tone, followed by a strong pass from No. 15 Logan Denning to No. 2 Jaylen Carr. Soon after, No. 8 Tyler Speight punched it near the 10-yard line, putting the Saints up 6–0. The extra point was no good for the Saints.

The Cougars tried to answer but were pushed back by a huge sack from No. 8 Tyler Speight of the Saints. After a quick four and out, the Cougars regained possession and leaned on their running game. A short pass from No. 5 Nehemiah McNair to No. 11 Nasir Davis moved the chains, but the first quarter ended with the Saints still ahead 6–0.

In the second quarter, the Cougars found their rhythm. A long connection from No. 5 Nehemiah McNair to No. 7 Amiyon Lawrence set up their first touchdown, evening the score at 6–6. The extra was no good on the PAT. Emotions began to flare, with penalties piling up on both sides. The Saints tried to respond with a big return from No. 6 Ivory Moore but a holding call brought it back. The Saints couldn’t get anything going on their next drive, and the Cougars take possession. Strong defense from the Saints stopped another Cougar drive, and the half ended tied at 6–6.

Momentum swings back and forth

The Cougars came out firing in the second half. A big run by No. 2 Kweli Davis and a penalty aided drive set the stage for a touchdown, giving the Cougars a 12–6 lead. The Saints regained momentum with a great pass by No. 15 Logan Denning finding No. 2 Jaylen Carr for a score, and after the extra point by No. 87 Jayden Bonds, the Saints edged ahead 13–12. The Cougars responded with another touchdown, reclaiming the lead 18–13 after a missed two-point try. But the Saints weren’t finished in this 3rd quarter. A sharp pass from No. 15 Logan Denning to No. 1 TJ Rodrick touchdown for the Saints making the score 19–18 after a missed extra point.

Late in the 4th quarter, No. 15 Logan Denning connected again with No. 2 Jayden Carr who was filling the stat sheet all night for another score. The extra point made it 26–18 in favor of the Saints. But the Cougars did not give. A late drive highlighted by big catches from No. 4 Zeveyon White and No. 11 Nasir Davis set up a clutch quarterback run by No. 5 Nehemiah McNair, pulling them within two. The Cougars converted the two-point try to tie the game at 26–26, forcing overtime.

Saints seal the win

The Cougars opened overtime with possession at the 10-yard line but were pushed back by penalties. The Saints’ defense delivered when No. 7 Cameron McKinney came up with a huge interception, swinging momentum instantly.
