The North Carolina Department of Transportation announced the unveiling of a new sign naming a bridge in memory of a fallen trooper.

Just outside of Goldsboro, along U.S. 117, the Patrolman Isaac T. Moore Bridge was named in memory of the trooper who was shot and killed in the line of duty in 1937. At the request of the N.C. State Highway Patrol, the N.C. Board of Transportation approved the installation of the signs for the U.S. 117 bridges spanning the Neuse River, just north of Old Mount Olive Highway.

Members of the Highway Patrol Division 4 staff, along with members of the state Highway Patrol, met on site to unveil the sign.

Moore served with the N.C. Highway Patrol for two years and was shot and killed June 18, 1937 while questioning two suspects who had been stopped along U.S. 117.

A resolution commemorating the naming of the bridges was adopted in November 2024.
