WARSAW — Nevaeh Hines-Bass tickled the twine for a career-high 30 points and led Southern Wayne past James Kenan, 47-43, in non-conference play Monday evening.
Hines converted 10 of 12 shots from the floor and collected six steals for the Saints, who halted a three-game skid.
Azariah Jordan contributed 12 points, three rebounds and two steals. Kymora Stokes added three points and four rebounds. Aliyah Williams scratched for two points.
The teams entered halftime tied at 19-19.
Southern Wayne trailed by two points after three quarters, but outscored James Kenan (0-1 overall) 19-13 in the final eight minutes of play.
The Saints return home Friday to face county rival Eastern Wayne.
Saints prevail on road
WARSAW — Kairell Evans poured in a game-high 24 points and helped lead Southern Wayne past James Kenan, 69-63, in their varsity boys’ basketball affair inside Harmon Gym on Monday evening.
Jayden Hardy tallied 14 points, while Demetrius Elliott knocked down 13. Jacobe Graham tallied 11 points. Jaylen Carr and Hayden Stroud supplied five and two points, respectively.
“The guys played hard … were down most of the game until the back end of the third [period],” SW head coach Brian West said. “This young team of mine plays extremely hard together. The process of seeing their effort is rewarding for us as a unit.”
Southern Wayne (1-3 overall) returns home Friday for a non-conference battle with cross-county rival Eastern Wayne.
Saints JV notch win
WARSAW — Southern Wayne filled the basket for 15 points in the fourth quarter and turned back James Kenan, 41-33, on Tuesday evening.
Jhonte King led the Saints with 15 points. Salik Council contributed 11 points, including nine in the fourth quarter. Maurice Battle scored seven and Torrencio Roddick added five.
The Saints entertain Eastern Wayne on Friday. Tip-off is 4:30 p.m. inside “The Halo.”
Rebels fall at home
CALYPSO — North Duplin struggled at the free throw line and dropped a 43-33, non-conference decision against Lejeune inside Kaleel Gymnasium on Friday evening.
The Rebels converted just two of 12 attempts.
Lucas Gregory paced North Duplin’s offense with eight points. Noa Quintanilla chipped in six points. Cole Grady and DJ Stanford registered four points apiece.
North Duplin travels to East Duplin on Thursday.
