WILSON — Short-handed Southern Wayne dropped a pair of matches during its Quad County 3A wrestling opener Wednesday evening.

Defending conference champion Charles B. Aycock turned back the Saints, 68-12. Tri-meet host Wilson Hunt prevailed 45-24.

The Saints had just nine wrestlers suit up, but one sat out due to missing weight. The absences led to 11 forfeits — five against Hunt and six against CBA.

SW 106-pounder Isaiah Smith ended the night 2-0.

Gerardo Sauno Diaz (132 pounds), Zach Sauls (144), Jordan Valentine (150) and heavyweight Bryce Sanders each filed a 1-1 worksheet.

Yusef Ceballos endured just his third loss of the season, a hard-fought 5-3 decision to CBA 215-pounder Jasaan Williams.

Brama Gomez Revette (157) and Douglas Player (170) each concluded the night 0-2.

Southern Wayne (2-9 overall, 0-2 QCC) returns to “The Halo” next Wednesday for QCC battles against South Johnston and Smithfield-Selma. It’s the Saints’ final home match of the season.
