Kevin and Jennifer Johnson were inducted into the Wayne County Agricultural Hall of Fame.
Tom and Ethel Britt were inducted into the Wayne County Agricultural Hall of Fame.
Vickey Sanderson was recognized as the Wayne County Extension and Community Association Outstanding Woman in Agriculture.
The annual Wayne County Farm City banquet was held Nov. 25 where this year’s inductees were announced for the Wayne County Agricultural Hall of Fame and the Outstanding Woman in Agriculture.
Tom and Ethel Britt were inducted into the Wayne County Agricultural Hall of Fame. They are involved in agriculture in the Grantham community through their current business, Carolina Nut Cracker. They worked together to promote agriculture, their pecan business and supported their community through involvement in church and organizing fundraising events for those in need.
Kevin and Jennifer Johnson were also inducted into the Wayne County Agricultural Hall of Fame. They have worked together to advocate and be a voice for Wayne County agriculture. Their active leadership roles through the Chamber of Commerce agriculture committee and the junior leadership program provide an outlook on agriculture for an audience that may not normally be exposed to it. The Karl Best Agriculture program has been a major part of their impact, by training farmers to be leaders in our communities and promote agriculture by encouraging farmers to share their stories. Individually, they have dedicated their careers to agriculture; Kevin had served our farmers through Wayne County Cooperative Extension for over 30 years and Jennifer is currently the animal science instructor at Wayne Community College where she is educating young adults to be the next leaders in agriculture.
Vickey Sanderson was recognized as the Wayne County Extension and Community Association Outstanding Woman in Agriculture. She plays an active role with her family farming operations and in 1980s diversified by starting a Christmas tree farm which grew into what is now Sanderson Fresh Wreaths and Garland. She also started a fresh-cut flower business where she sells bouquets at the North Carolina Farmers Market along with sharing bouquets within her community. She has played active roles serving the community through church and many agriculture organizations.
The annual Wayne County Farm City Banquet is held annually by NC Cooperative Extension-Wayne County Center during National Farm-City Week to recognize the partnerships between rural and urban communities and highlight the importance of agriculture.
