Phillips is the 12th North Duplin running back to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season since 2010. He helped lead the Rebels to back-to-back Carolina 1A Conference regular-season championships. He has surpassed 2,000 yards for his career, including a 266-yard outing in the Rebels’ regular-season finale against Hobbton. Ironically, he scored the game-winning touchdown in that game to help keep North Duplin’s perfect season intact before the NC High School Athletic Association Class 1A playoffs began in mid-November.

Rebels’ head coach Hugh Martin said, “Carell is an outstanding young man and football player. He has worked very hard in the weight room and on the practice field to become the player he is [this season]. For the past three years, his strength and speed have improved every year through his work ethic. Carell is a great teammate and is a joy to coach.”
