SEVEN SPRINGS — Oh what a night!

Senior Homar Lopez Castro accounted for seven points — two goals and three assists — and led Spring Creek past Eastern Wayne, 8-0, during their Neuse Six 2A matchup in “The Swamp” on Wednesday evening.

“Great game from Homar,” SC head coach Miguel Torres said.

Eight Gators scratched in the scorebook.

Eric Sosa Rodriguez scored twice. The freshman has collected goals in three of his four appearances.

Jeheili Sanchez, Frey Alexis Lucas Lopez and Edgar Avila Anguiano tallied one goal apiece. Alejandro Flores, Yoimar Sequeira and Efrain Cabrera Lopez each supplied an assist.

The Gators’ normal starting goalie, Anguiano played 70 minutes between the pipes. Freshman Diego Rivera Salinas kept the Bruins scoreless the final 10 minutes.

Anguiano lowered his goals-against-average (GAA) to 1.27 for the season. The SC defense recorded its 10th shutout overall and seventh against conference opposition.

The Gators have yielded just two goals in the last 740 minutes of play.

More importantly, Spring Creek (13-7-2 overall, 9-0-0 Neuse Six 2A) clinched the regular-season championship outright – the 12th conference title in program history. The Gators have claimed league crowns in three different conferences and two classifications – Carolina 1A (seven), East Central 2A (one) and Neuse Six 2A (four).

“With the win, we are officially conference champions and that is the best reward for our seniors during senior,” Torres said. “We enjoyed tonight and [look] to finish conference play strong [tonight] against a good Beddingfield team.”

Kickoff is 6 p.m. in Wilson.

Spring Creek seized the automatic bid to the NC High School Athletic Association playoffs, which kick off Nov. 9. The Gators are ranked No. 16 in the latest RPI standings.
