GOLDSBORO — “Four-peat” complete – almost.

Spring Creek earned a share of its fourth consecutive Neuse Six 2A regular-season boys’ soccer championship Tuesday evening with a 2-1 victory over Goldsboro.

The senior combo of Diego Lopez Morales and Homar Lopez Castro notched one goal apiece. Senior Emanuel Rangel and Aiden Yovani Javier each provided one assist.

SC’s defense allowed just its second goal in 740 minutes of action against conference opposition this season.

Senior Alexander Cramer scored for Goldsboro.

Goalie Owen Acorn collected 11 saves between the pipes for the Cougars, who are 0-18-0 all-time against the Gators since 2010. Three of the outcomes have been decided one goal, while 11 have resulted in shutout fashion.

“Just happy with the win tonight … the best part,” SC head coach Miguel Torres said. “Playing the way we played to get the win, I’ll take it. Goldsboro played a very aggressive style and made it hard for us to play our style of soccer.

“It’s a big step forward towards being conference champion.”

The Gators (12-7-2 overall, 8-0-0 overall) can clinch the title outright and automatic playoff bid with a victory today against Beddingfield. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. in “The Swamp.”

Boys’ soccer is Spring Creek’s lone sport to win 12 conference championships in three different leagues and two classifications – Carolina 1A (seven), East Central 2A (one) and Neuse Six 2A (four).

Goldsboro (4-6-1 overall) concluded the year 4-5-1 in league matters.

Conference officials said there will be no conference tournament this season. Seedings for the NC High School Athletic Association will be released Nov. 7. The association postponed the postseason for one week due to damage caused by Hurricane Helene in western NC.

SW falls in QCC soccer

FOUR OAKS — South Johnston tallied three first-half goals and upended Southern Wayne, 4-2, in their Quad County 3A boys’ soccer game contested Monday evening.

“We were broken down defensively early on in the game and it eventually cost us the game,” SW head coach Luis Ramirez said. “We had opportunities that could have put us in the lead, but weren’t able to capitalize on their mistakes.”

Riqueime Gomez scored both SW goals.

The Saints (4-12-1 overall, 2-6-1 QCC) return home today for a conference outing against Smithfield-Selma. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. on the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex pitch.
