CALYPSO — Southern Wayne concluded its 2024 volleyball season Monday evening with a 19-25, 15-25, 14-25 loss to West Johnston in opening-round play of the Quad County 3A tournament.
It was the final match for three SW seniors – Taylor Lee, Alysa Craft and Jy’Asha Cousins.
Lee provided 18 assists and six digs. Cousins collected 13 kills and five blocks, while Craft logged three digs.
Mylee Wiggs posted seven kills and 11 digs. Jurnae Ammons had two blocks. Jacey Hargrove and Morgan Brimberry picked up five and six digs, respectively.
The Saints wound up 4-19 overall.
Gators advance
GOLDSBORO — Spring Creek ousted Beddingfield in five sets Monday evening and advanced to semifinal-round play in the 2024 Neuse Six 2A Conference volleyball tournament.

The fourth-seeded Gators (7-16 overall) face regular-season champion Princeton today.
Tigers fall to Stallions
JACKSONVILLE — Ava Jones cranked out a team-leading seven kills during James Kenan’s 18-25, 25-18, 20-25, 19-25 loss Monday evening at Southwest Onslow.
Jourdan Joe pounded out five kills. Kierra Williams recorded four kills, one block and two digs. Shylah Sloan contributed four kills and one block.
Jazmine Lopez registered three digs. Y’Anna Rivers supplied three digs, two service aces, one block and one kill.
The Tigers (7-14 overall) fell to 2-9 against East Central 2A opposition this season. They conclude regular-season play Thursday at home against ECC regular-season champion Wallace-Rose Hill.
Saints tumble in QCC play
DUDLEY — West Johnston handed Southern Wayne a 6-1 loss on the Quad County 3A boys’ soccer scene Monday evening.
Details were not available on the game.
The Saints (4-9-1 overall, 2-3-1 QCC) begins a three-game conference road swing Thursday at Wilson Hunt.
Rebels get shut down
ROSEBORO — Lakewood handed North Duplin a 2-0 loss in their Carolina 1A boys’ soccer encounter Monday evening.
The Leopards scored one goal in each half.
The Rebels (1-5-1 overall, 1-5-1 Carolina) returns home Wednesday to face Union. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at H.E. Grubbs Field.
