Rewarding Responders was presented a check for $3861 from Sederis Rhodes on behalf of The Roger Rhodes Memorial Race.
The 7th Annual Roger Rhodes Memorial Race was held on Sept. 21 at the Kinston Drag Strip with 95 individual racers. Before the race, a ceremony was held to honor Roger’s memory.
There were nine rounds of races- some of the toughest competition the annual event has seen yet. Leroy Williams was the sole semi-finalist. Perry Green and Mitch Moore found themselves in the finals. With Green having a slight starting line advantage, Moore would break out in an attempt to catch up with Green at the finish line. Perry Green was the winner of the annual race.
Roger Rhodes passed away in the summer of 2018 at age 64. Rhodes was a native of Wayne County and a beloved teacher and coach at Charles B. Aycock High School.
Mallory Dumond, President & Founder of Rewarding Responders stated, “This donation is truly special as it not only honors the memory of a great community member and educator, but it will also have a lasting impact on a first responder and their family as they travel on their all-expenses-paid vacation, making lifelong memories.”
The Roger Rhodes Memorial Race is held annually each fall.
Rewarding Responders exists to reward first responders and their families with all-expenses-paid vacations to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
