North Duplin and James Kenan each remained unbeaten on the football field Friday evening, while Southern Wayne dropped a Quad County 3A contest at home.
North Duplin 48, Bear Grass Charter 0
CALYPSO – Carell Phillips rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries during a non-conference meeting at H.E. Grubbs Field.
Phillips scored on runs of 34, 17 and 65 yards. He boosted his season totals to 726 yards and 13 touchdowns
Luke Kelly, who was selected homecoming king, accounted for three touchdowns — two passing and one rushing. The senior quarterback hooked up with Lucas Dail and Branson Martin on TD strikes of 5 and 22 yards, respectively.
Kelly rambled for a 23-yard TD in the third quarter. The fourth-year signal caller accounted for 61 yards of total offense.
Jayden Pope tallied the Rebels’ final score — a 16-yard scramble in the final quarter. Pope finished with 41 yards on just three totes.
In all, 10 North Duplin ball carriers combined for 408 yards rushing on 35 attempts. The Rebels, as a team, have rushed for 300 or more yards in three outings this season.
Defensively, North Duplin held Bear Grass Charter to 19 yards of total offense – one yard rushing on 22 carries and 18 yards on one pass completion.
The Rebels (5-0 overall) launch their 2024 Carolina 1A campaign at home Friday against Lakewood. The teams have split their last 10 meetings.

WARSAW — Imir Sanders spearheaded the ground attack and Tyquise Wilson led the aerial attack during the Tigers’ romp over East Central 2A foe South Lenoir at Bill Taylor Field.
Sanders rushed for 135 yards on nine carries.
Wilson reeled in three touchdown receptions that covered 43, 15, and 15 yards. The senior finished with six catches that resulted in 148 yards.
Quarterback Eli Avent completed 10 of 17 passes for 210 yards and rushed for another 42 yards. The junior signal caller accounted for four TDs on the night.
David “Cito” Zeleya and Jeremiah Hall each rushed for one touchdown.
Kenan amassed 464 yards of total offense.
The Tigers’ defense forced four turnovers. Sophomore Jaquez Smith picked off a pass and recovered a fumble. Wilson also grabbed an interception. Luis De La Rosa logged a fumble recovery.
Kenan (6-0 overall, 2-0 ECC) returns home Friday to face league-leading Kinston. The Vikings (5-2, 3-0) bring a five-game win streak into the game.

Wilson Hunt 49, Southern Wayne 0
DUDLEY — Injury-riddled Southern Wayne continues to search for its first Quad County 3A win of the season after a loss to Wilson Hunt.
The Warriors forced two turnovers and blocked two punts en route to their third victory of the year. They exited 3-3 overall and 2-1 against league opposition.
The Saints (1-5, 0-3) entertain South Johnston for homecoming next Friday. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex.
