MOUNT OLIVE — As the fall semester begins at the University of Mount Olive (UMO), Aaron Ingram stands ready to embark on a new chapter as an incoming freshman. Ingram, a distinguished scholar from Rosewood High School, arrived with a solid academic record, a passion for agriculture, and a deep commitment to faith and community service.
Graduating as the valedictorian of Rosewood High School’s Class of 2024, Ingram’s academic excellence has been recognized through numerous awards, including the titles of Chief Marshall and the prestigious WRAL Tom Suiter Extra Effort Award recipient. Ingram has also excelled as a three-time state championship qualifier in golf.
Beyond Ingram’s academic and athletic accomplishments, he is an active member of Oakland Community Church, where he has taken on leadership roles within the youth group and served at the soup kitchen. Whether leading Vacation Bible School or participating in service projects, Ingram gives it his all. “My faith is central to my life, and I strive to live in a way that brings others closer to God,” he said.
The University of Mount Olive’s Christian values align perfectly with Ingram’s beliefs, making it the ideal college of choice for him to grow academically and spiritually. “UMO’s values resonate with my own, and I look forward to continuing my faith journey here,” he said.
At UMO, Ingram has chosen to major in agribusiness with a minor in mathematics to complement his love for numbers. Growing up in Wayne County, he always helped his parents and grandparents with their gardens and with chores like bush hogging and clearing paths. These interests led to his high school involvement in Future Farmers of America (FFA) where he served as an officer during his junior and senior years. “Agriculture has always been a part of my life, and I can’t imagine a future where I’m not involved in it somehow,” he said.
Ingram’s journey has not been without its challenges. In 2020, he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, a condition that requires careful management and a positive mindset. Learning to use an insulin pump and monitor his blood sugar levels, Ingram has embraced technology to lead a healthy and active lifestyle. “Diabetes has taught me a lot about resilience and the importance of staying positive,” he reflects. This experience has only strengthened his resolve to live life to the fullest and inspire others to overcome their obstacles, embodying the resilience and determination that have come to define him.
Family plays a central role in Ingram’s life. His parents, Lisa and Jeff Ingram, and his siblings, Anna and Andrew, have been steadfast supporters and role models. His siblings, both UMO alumni, have paved the way for Aaron’s educational journey—Anna working as a Physician Assistant and Andrew as a research specialist in agriculture. “My family has always been my biggest support system, and I’m grateful to have them by my side,” he said.
As he begins his college journey, Ingram looks forward to meeting new people and becoming an active member of the UMO community. “I’m excited to start this new chapter and see where it takes me,” he said.
The University of Mount Olive is a private institution rooted in the liberal arts tradition with defining Christian values. The Convention of Original Free Will Baptists founded the University. For more information, visit www.umo.edu.
