Donald Allen Swinson, born on Feb. 4, 1941, in Mount Olive, passed away on Aug. 6, 2024, in Richlands, North Carolina, at the age of 83.
Donald dedicated his life to serving his country and community. He honorably served in the United States Marine Corps for nine years, demonstrating unwavering commitment and valor. Following his military service, he continued his dedication to public service by serving on the Jacksonville Police Department. Later, he worked as a License Examiner at the DMV before proudly driving a concrete truck for twenty-two years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Swinson and Edna Grice Swinson; his beloved wife, Nora Lee Swinson; his son, Roddie Davis; his brother, Bruce Swinson; and his sister, Jean Whitfield.
Donald is survived by his son, Garth (Cathy) Davis, of Florida; his daughters, Cindy D Sizemore and Deanna Schmitt, both of Jacksonville, North Carolina; his brothers, Clayton Swinson and Jimmy Swinson, both of Mount Olive, North Carolina; his cherished grandchildren, Kindie, Nicholas, Tommy, Joshua, Amber, Chris, Angie, Jeremy, Brianna (Gregg), Sierra (Gary), Kyla, and Alexa; as well as eighteen great-grandchildren.
Donald Allen Swinson’s legacy of service, dedication, and love for his family will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home of Richlands on Sunday, August 11, 2024, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, Aug. 12, 2024, at 11:30 a.m., with burial to follow at Onslow Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by the United States Marine Corps.
