GOLDSBORO — To show their appreciation for the dedication and hard work of Jack Kannan, who generously volunteered his time as the interim Executive Director, the Board of Directors of the Arts Council of Wayne County has established the Jack E. Kannan Arts Education Scholarship.
This annual scholarship honors Jack Kannan’s selflessness and commitment by awarding $1,000 to a senior who plans to pursue a degree in the arts in college.
The inaugural recipient of the Jack E. Kannan Arts Education Scholarship is Haley Short from Charles B. Aycock High School. Short will be attending Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania, where she plans to major in acting. During her time as a Falcon, Short was the co-editor and chief of the Governor Yearbook staff, junior marshall, and a choir member. Outside of school, Short was an actor with StageStruck, a student at Gold City House of Music and Studio 33 Dance Company, and a vocalist for Wreaths Across America and the Princeton Church of God Awaken Youth Band.
“I have given myself over to the things that I love. Even though it requires the most aspirational circus act anyone has ever seen, everything I’m balancing is either necessary or something I truly love,” Short said.
