DUDLEY — Southern Wayne notched its lone goal around the 42nd minute and turned back county rival Spring Creek, 1-0, on a cloudy and misty Friday afternoon.

Karen Flores tallied the Saints’ lone goal.

“My girls stopped thinking it [the ball] was going out [of bounds],” Gators head coach Rileigh Tillus said. “Not the best play [today], but wanting to grow on it.”

SW goalie Amya Smith logged 11 saves.

The Saints (3-0-0 overall) return home March 7 against county rival Goldsboro. Meanwhile, the Gators (1-2-0) hit the road Monday at Hobbton.

Games scratched out

CALYPSO — Basketball and rainy weather is keeping North Duplin off the baseball diamond.

Third-year head coach Colton Chrisman doesn’t mind at the moment.

The Rebels (2-0 overall) did not play Friday afternoon at South Lenoir since their basketball team played a home game in the NC High School Athletic Association Class 1A playoffs.

Tuesday’s outing at Lejeune is postponed, too, after North Duplin defeated East Bladen. The Rebels, instead, are the guests of top-seeded Wilson Prep Academy in a third-round postseason affair.

Heide Trask is expected to invade North Duplin’s baseball diamond Wednesday.
