DUDLEY — Nevaeh Hines-Bass pumped in a career-high 34 points and led Southern Wayne past South Johnston, 49-45, in their Quad County 3A battle Tuesday evening.

Hines-Bass also established career highs for free throws made (20) and attempted (25), and shot 6 of 7 from the floor.

Jaycee Hargrove posted five points. Kymora Stokes contributed four points and three rebounds. Yme JeanBaptiste pulled down four rebounds and scored two points.

Kyren Strong supplied two points and three rebounds. Wilberline Senatus and Aliyah Williams snared five rebounds apiece.

South Johnston led 12-4 after one quarter.

The Saints seized command with a 20-point, offensive outburst in the second quarter. Coach Ricky Lofton’s club entered the final period with a one-point lead.

Southern Wayne (8-13 overall, 5-6 QCC) returns to action Friday at conference member Smithfield-Selma.

Evans leads Saints

DUDLEY — Kairel Evans dropped in 23 points and Southern Wayne snapped a three-game skid Tuesday evening with a 68-61 conquest of Quad County 3A foe South Johnston.

Evans drained six 3-pointers.

Chris Carmon and Demetrius Elliott knocked down 15 points apiece for the Saints, who improved to 10-4 against South Johnston since 2010.

Jayden Hardy added 14 points.

Southern Wayne grabbed a double-digit lead in the first period.

The Saints (8-13 overall, 4-7 QCC) play their final regular-season road contest Friday at Smithfield-Selma.

Warriors knock off SC girls

GOLDSBORO — Heather Alexander grabbed a season- and career-high 16 rebounds Tuesday evening during Spring Creek’s 51-41 loss at Neuse Six 2A rival Eastern Wayne.

A junior center, Alexander added 10 points.

Freshman guard Kiarah Pearson knocked down a team-high 14 points and collected five steals. Trinity Daniels stuffed her stat sheet with eight points, five steals, two assists and four rebounds.

Aaliyah Kornegay logged four points and four rebounds. Emily Williams provided three points and six assists. Sarah Kirby chipped in two points.

Eastern Wayne owned a 21-17 edge in made field goals.

The Gators (6-12 overall, 1-5 Neuse Six 2A) hit the road Thursday for a non-conference tilt at Hobbton and return home Friday for their senior night celebration against Princeton.

Rebel JVs prevail

CALYPSO — Lucas Gregory drained the game-winning free throw with 6.6 seconds left Friday evening, and lifted North Duplin past Lakewood, 50-49, on the Carolina 1A Conference scene.

Gregory paced the Rebels with 17 points.

Holden Williams contributed 10 points. Teammates Chris Kornegay and Noa Quintanilla recorded nine and eight points, respectively.

The Rebels (9-8 overall, 4-3 Carolina) continue league play Friday at Union. Tip-off is 4:30 p.m. in Rose Hill.
