A diligent and efficient effort on the wrestling mat proved beneficial for the University of Mount Olive women Sunday afternoon.

The Trojans emerged victorious in all six contested individual bouts and earned four forfeits in their 50-0 romp over Allen University.

Assistant coach Troy Bell couldn’t have been more pleased.

“Today was about tactics, managing a match,” Bell said. “We’ve had a couple of matches this year where we felt should have won [individual] matches. We’d be ahead, make some critical mistakes because we weren’t managing the matches.

“The big thing was to make sure we understand what the score is … who’s been put on the clock and who hasn’t been put on the clock.”

The Trojans never allowed the Yellow Jackets to sting them.

UMO wrestled a total of 11 minutes, 29 seconds on the day. Five outcomes resulted from first-period falls. Allen conceded one match due to injury.

Samantha Miller (109 pounds), Brielle Bibla (130), Angelica Steffy (136), Nia Miranda (170) and Jada Arnold (191) each pinned their respective opponent. Skyelar Smith received the injury default at 143.

A first-year program, the Yellow Jackets forfeited at 101, 116, 123 and 170 pounds.

UMO improved to a program-best 8-4 overall.

“I was very pleased with today,” Bell said. “We’re trying to peak right now being that regionals is just two weeks away. We’ve got the tournament in Ohio next weekend, so that will be a good measuring stick for us. We’re excited.”
