SALEMBURG — Long-time nemesis Lakewood pumped in 23 fourth-quarter points and stunned North Duplin, 46-44, on the Carolina 1A girls’ basketball scene Friday evening.

The Leopards owned a lopsided 31-14 advantage in free throw attempts, including 18 tries in the final period.

Tateyawna Faison recorded 15 points, four steals and six rebounds for North Duplin. Reece Outlaw contributed 13 points, four steals and four rebounds. Faison and Outlaw each fouled out.

Addy Higginbotham posted 10 points, four steals and two rebounds. Meghan Martin provided four points and four rebounds. Abigail Norris registered two points and five rebounds – all on the offensive end of the court.

The Rebels committed 23 turnovers.

North Duplin (8-6 overall, 1-1 Carolina) returns home Tuesday to face Union, which has a league-best 9-3 overall record. It’s a rematch of last year’s tournament final won by the Rebels.

SW boys fall to Fike

WILSON — Chris Carmon tallied 13 points during Southern Wayne’s 71-66 loss at Quad County 3A rival Fike Friday evening.

Kairel Evans added 12 points for the Saints, who dropped to 6-9 overall and 2-3 against QCC opposition this season. Jayden Hardy collected 11 points, while Hayden Waller drained a pair of 3-pointers.

The Saints visit county rival Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday.

Warriors handle SC girls

SEVEN SPRINGS — Trinity Daniels poured in a team-high 13 points as Spring Creek opened its Neuse Six 2A schedule with a 55-29 loss to Eastern Wayne on Friday evening.

Heather Alexander scored six points for the Gators, who slipped to 5-8 overall this season. Kiarah Pearson tallied five points. Aaliyah Kornegay scratched for four points, while senior point guard Emily Williams knocked down three points.

The Gators visit Neuse Six rival Princeton Tuesday.

SW girls struggle

WILSON — Quad County 3A co-leader Fike built a 19-point lead after one quarter and rolled past short-handed Southern Wayne, 59-8, Friday evening.

Wilberline Senatus emerged as the Saints’ top scorer with four points. Destiny Bullock and Yme Jean Baptiste each had two points.

Leading scorers Nevaeh Hines-Bass and Kyren Strong remained sidelined due to concussion protocol.

Southern Wayne (6-9, 3-2 QCC) is the guest of county rival Charles B. Aycock on Tuesday.
