SPRING CREEK — Spring Creek won’t officially launch its Neuse Six 2A Conference basketball campaign until Friday.
A shortage of referees forced postponement of Tuesday’s home and conference opener against North Johnston. A make-up date has not been announced.
Fans who purchased tickets online are eligible for a refund.
The Gators entertain former Carolina 1A rival Hobbton in “The Swamp” today. Spring Creek’s boys are 5-6 overall, including a 4-0 record at home. The girls are 4-7.
Rebels dominate
SMITHFIELD-SELMA — Two-time defending Carolina 1A regular-season girls’ basketball champ North Duplin opened conference play with a 56-25 romp over Neuse Charter on Tuesday evening.
Tateyawna Faison paced the Rebels’ offense with 20 points. The junior center collected seven field goals and shot 6 of 8 at the free throw line.
Reece Outlaw knocked down 13 points, while backcourt mate Addy Higginbotham tallied 12. Meghan Martin, Lilly Fulghum and Sophia Davis provided three points apiece.
The Rebels (8-5 overall, 1-0 Carolina) claimed their fifth consecutive victory over the Cougars. They visit Lakewood on Friday.
JV Saints triumph
DUDLEY — Zymere Vick poured in 14 of his game- and team-high 26 points in the third quarter during Southern Wayne’s 74-64 conquest of Quad County 3A foe Smithfield-Selma on Tuesday evening.
Ivory Moore notched 18 points for the Saints, who erupted for 29 points in the third quarter. Jaden Moore scored nine points, followed by Duquan Stevens with eight. Hayden Stroud swished a pair of 3-pointers.
The Saints (5-6 overall) travel to QCC rival Fike on Friday. Tip-off is 4:30 p.m.
