WARSAW — Kairel Evans tickled the twine for a career-high 27 points and Southern Wayne snapped a three-game skid during its 60-58, non-conference triumph over James Kenan inside Harmon Gym Tuesday evening.
Ty Williams provided nine points, while Chris Carmon tallied eight. Hayden Waller and Demetrius Elliot supplied five points apiece.
The Saints led by 22 at halftime.
However, this double-digit advantage — unlike their previous meeting — didn’t appear. Coach Brian West’s club refused to disappear offensively in the second half, despite the Tigers’ TJ Oates filling up the basket.
Oates poured in 23 second-half points, including 16 in the fourth quarter. His season-best, 28-point output wasn’t enough to polish off Kenan’s comeback attempt.
Jamaury Coe and Tyquise Wilson scratched for nine and eight points, respectively.
Southern Wayne (1-3 overall) is the guest of cross-county rival Eastern Wayne on Friday. James Kenan (1-1) entertains county foe North Duplin on Dec. 12.
