DUDLEY — Southern Wayne erased a third-quarter, double-digit deficit and upended North Pitt, 59-54, in overtime on Friday evening.

The Saints drained nine of 12 free-throw attempts in the extra period to snap a three-game skid dating to their season-ending playoff loss last winter.

Chris Carmon notched a career-high 28 points, including 20 in the second half and OT session combined. Ty Williams tallied 14 points, while Douglas Wynn and Hayden Waller knocked down six points apiece.

Southern Wayne (1-2 overall) begins a two-game road swing Tuesday at James Kenan. Tip-off is approximately 8 p.m. inside Harmon Gymnasium.

Gator girls cage Bulldogs

HOLLY RIDGE — Trinity Daniels flirted with a triple-double and Aaliyah Kornegay just missed a double-double during Spring Creek’s 34-33, non-conference triumph over Dixon High School Friday evening.

Daniels posted 13 points, eight steals and seven rebounds. Kornegay supplied nine points, 12 rebounds and five steals.

Point guard Emily Williams contributed seven points, two steals, two assists and two rebounds. Heather Alexander and Sara Kirby each pulled down four rebounds.

Spring Creek (3-1 overall) returns home Wednesday to face Midway. Tip-off is 6 p.m. in “The Swamp.”

Panthers rout Saints

DUDLEY — Perennial 2A girls’ basketball juggernaut North Pitt built a 22-point lead after one quarter and rolled past Southern Wayne, 60-14, Friday.

Naveah Hines-Bass and Nygeria Thompson paced the Saints’ offense with six points apiece. Kymora Stokes added two points.

The Saints made six free throws and four field goals.

North Pitt forced 24 turnovers.

SC boys drop road loss

HOLLY RIDGE — Spring Creek endured a 74-49, non-conference road loss at Dixon High School Friday evening.

The Gators (2-2 overall) entertain Midway on Wednesday.

Rebel JV boys fall

CALYPSO — Lucas Dail emerged as North Duplin’s leading scorer with 12 points during a 62-44, non-conference loss to county rival East Duplin Friday evening.

Christopher Kornegay added 10 points. Noa Quintanilla and Carson Barwick contributed eight points apiece. Holden Williams tallied five points.

The teams combined for 46 fouls and 52 free throw attempts.

North Duplin returns home Tuesday to face Jones Senior.
