GOLDSBORO — North Duplin’s Luis Avilez-Gonzalez and Rosewood’s Dylan Jinks each emerged the Carolina 1A individual champs during the league’s season-ending cross country meet ran recently at the Bryan Multi-Sports Complex.
Avilez-Gonzalez claimed the boys’ title in 18 minutes, 50 seconds on the flat, fast-paced 3.1-mile course.
Jinks finished in 22:11.
The Rebels’ Luke Holland earned all-Carolina 1A Conference honors with a ninth-place effort of 20:58.7. Teammates Sam Carr (21:35) and Lucas Gregory (22:19) crossed the line 11th and 12th, respectively.
Genaro Pacheco took 14th in 22:24.7, while freshman Gavin Birkin ended up 18th in 23:56.4.
On the girls’ side, North Duplin freshman Roselin Orozco received all-conference accolades with a 10th-place time of 26:34.2. Teammate Baker Sumner was 11th in 26:51, while Gabriela Zamudio ended up 13th in 28:15.1.
Fellow Rebels Brittany Huerta (15th, 30:26.4), Jasmine Manzanares (16th, 30:28.1), Jackie Modina Guzman (18th, 30:59.4) and Sasha Arguijo (19th, 31:20.1) each finished among the top 20.
Rosewood captured both the boys’ and girls’ team crowns. The Eagles defeated the Rebels, 41-47, on the boys’ side.
