NEWTON GROVE — North Duplin concluded regular-season play with a 25-18, 25-14, 25-21 triumph over Carolina 1A volleyball foe Hobbton Thursday evening.

Reece Outlaw cranked out 11 kills and posted a .438 hitting percentage during the three-set sweep. The senior outside hitter recorded six digs defensively and served two aces.

Addy Higginbotham missed a double-double with eight kills and eight digs. Setter Lilly Fulghum distributed 25 assists, logged three aces and collected five digs on defense.

Middle hitter Eva Quintanilla contributed five kills and two digs. Madison Holmes recorded two kills and three blocks, while Marissa Bernal notched two aces and three digs.

Other defensive leaders were Ady Spence (two digs), Isabella Quintanilla (three digs), M’chelle Jaco (five digs), Meghan Martin (three digs), Sarah Thomas Tucker (two digs) and Valaja Wallace (two digs).

The Rebels (8-9 overall, 4-6 Carolina 1A) clinched the No. 4 seed and faces fifth-seeded Lakewood (2-17, 2-8) in the conference tournament Monday at Neuse Charter. Sixth-seeded Hobbton (6-11, 1-9) meets third-seeded Union (10-10, 5-5).

Rosewood (19-2, 9-1) and Neuse Charter (14-10, 9-1) shared the regular-season championship.

Gators dump Panthers

KENLY — Four Spring Creek players scratched on the scoring sheet during a 4-1 conquest of Neuse Six 2A boys’ soccer rival North Johnston Thursday.

Jeheili Velasquez-Sanchez, Homer Lopez-Castro, Ozias Miteu and Gustabo Vargas-Fajardo supplied one goal and one assist apiece. Fajardo scored his first goal of the season.

Miteu boosted his team-leading goal total to 16. Velasquez-Sanchez and Lopez-Castro are next with five goals apiece.

Goalie Joseph Vasquez logged four saves for the Gators, who are 5-0-1 in their last six outings on the pitch.

Spring Creek (10-8-1 overall, 6-0-0 Neuse Six 2A) returns home Tuesday to face county rival Eastern Wayne. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at “The Swamp.”
