SEVEN SPRINGS — Goldsboro pulled away in the latter stages of each set during a 25-17, 25-19, 25-21 triumph over Neuse Six 2A volleyball rival Spring Creek Tuesday.
“We just came out flat, stayed flat,” SC head coach Chad Kirby said. “It’s kind of dumbfounding to me. We’re in every single set. We’ve got to show heart, determination, grit [and] the want to win.”
The Gators return home Thursday to celebrate senior night against Beddingfield. Prior to the game, Kirby will recognize his three seniors – multi-sport athlete Emily Williams, Eda Ham and Rebekah Rios.
Kirby anticipates SC to earn either the fourth or fifth seed for next week’s season-ending conference tournament. The Gators (5-10 overall, 3-6 Neuse Six 2A) will play at the No. 3 seed, which will be determined after Thursday’s matches are completed.
Princeton is the No. 1 seed and automatic qualifier to the NC High School Athletic Association playoffs.
“Everybody has beaten everybody [this season],” Kirby said of conference play. “It all depends on what day [it is].”
