WENDELL — Catie Schallert emerged as the third Southern Wayne girls’ golfer to qualify for the NC High School Athletic Association East 3A Regional during a Quad County 3A meet contested Tuesday afternoon.

The Southern Wayne senior carded a career-best, nine-hole round of 48 on the Wendell Country Club links. She joins teammates Regan Stribble and fellow senior Laura Sullivan.

Stribble posted a 47 at WCC. Summerlin rounded out the team’s season-best, three-player total of 146. The trio helped the Saints shave 11 strokes off their team average.

Senior Emily Webster remained in regional contention with a 55. Chloe Sullivan turned in a 57.

The regionals are Oct. 23 at Wedgewood Golf Club in Wilson.

Southern Wayne concludes its regular-season QCC campaign Oct. 9 on its home course. The final eight-team meet, which will be 18 holes, tees off at 11 a.m. on the Southern Wayne Country Club links.

Gators edge Bruins

SEVEN SPRINGS — Spring Creek continued preservation of its unbeaten record in Neuse Six 2A boys’ soccer play with a 2-1 conquest of Princeton Tuesday evening.

Ozias Miteu and Christian Jaurez-Lopez provided one goal apiece for the Gators. Goalie Joseph Antonio Vasquez recorded two saves between the pipes.

Mateo Olmo Ramirez collected Princeton’s lone goal off an assist from Luca Garcia. Net-minder Connor Woodall logged 14 saves for the Dawgs, who are 0-16-1 against the Gators since 2010.

The Gators improved to 22-1-0 against Neuse Six opposition since the league’s inception in 2021.

Spring Creek (7-8-0 overall, 3-0-0 Neuse Six) launches a four-match road swing Thursday at county and conference rival Goldsboro. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. at Cougar Stadium.

Warriors outlast Bruins

SEVEN SPRINGS — Spring Creek bounced back from a third-set loss and claimed a 25-13, 25-11, 10-25, 31-29 victory over Neuse Six 2A volleyball foe Beddingfield Tuesday afternoon.

The Gators (5-8 overall, 3-4 Neuse Six) are the guests of defending conference champion Princeton Thursday.

Rebels run at Lakewood

SALEMBURG — Two in a row.

North Duplin junior Luis Avilez-Gonzalez emerged as the top boys’ runner during a Carolina 1A cross country meet contested at Lakewood High School Tuesday afternoon.

Avilez-Gonzalez covered the 5k (3.1-mile) trail in 19 minutes, 33 seconds.

Teammate Luke Holland, a senior, placed 10th overall in 23:38. Fellow Rebels Gavin Burkin (25:07) and Lucas Gregory (25:13) wound up 13th and 14th, respectively.

ND did have enough runners to post a team score.

Rosewood senior Andon Timmons took second in 20:08. Hobbton’s tandem of Nate Miller (20:29) and Owen Boatright (20:45) crossed the line third and fourth, respectively. Neuse Charter junior Noah Highfil ended up fifth in 20:45.7.

On the girls’ side, North Duplin junior Baker Sumner turned in a team-best 13th-place effort of 28:47. Teammates Roselin Orozco (29:06), Gabriella Zamudio (29:06) and Jacqueline Molina-Guz (35:12) each placed among the top 20.

Brittany Huerta (36:03) claimed 21st overall, while Sasha Arguijo (36:08) took 21st.

Hobbton’s duo of Andrea Sada-Romero (23:45) and Analiza West (23:54) recorded first and second, respectively. Neuse Charter sophomore Isabella Strickland (24:06), and Rosewood teammates India Young (24:07) and Abigail Rowe (24:41) rounded out the top five.
