GOLDSBORO — Ozias “Z” Miteu collected two goals during Spring Creek’s 4-1 conquest of Neuse Six 2A boys’ soccer rival Eastern Wayne Thursday evening.

Miteu boosted his season total to nine goals.

Jeheili Velasquez-Sanchez and Milton Perez-Renoj tallied one goal apiece. Homar Lopez-Castro recorded two assists, while Yoban Perez-Mazariegos and Milton Perez-Renoj provided one assists.

SC goalies Joseph Vasquez and Edgar Avila-Anguiano each played 40 minutes between the pipes. Vasquez notched one save.

The Gators (6-8-0 overall, 2-0-0 Neuse Six 2A) claimed their fifth consecutive win and ninth overall against the Warriors since 2012.

Spring Creek returns home Tuesday to face Princeton. Kickoff is 6 p.m. in “The Swamp.”

Saints take first

Southern Wayne emerged as the top-finishing team during a non-conference girls’ golf match contested at Lane Tree Golf Club Thursday afternoon.

Regan Stribble shared second place individually with Charles B. Aycock’s Morinah Bryant and Goldsboro’s Tara Burnham. Saints senior Emily Webster logged the third-best score during the nine-hole event.

SW’s Laura Summerlin and teammate Catie Schallert wound up fourth and sixth, respectively.

Wayne Country Day’s Carsyn Roberts emerged as the medalist with a 1-under-par 35.

The Saints return to action next Tuesday for a Quad County 3A match at Wendell Country Club.

Rebels swept by Cougars

CALYPSO — North Duplin endured a 22-25, 17-25, 20-25 loss to two-time defending Carolina 1A volleyball champion Neuse Charter Thursday evening.

Senior outside hitter Reece Outlaw stuffed her stat sheet with a season-high 16 digs, two blocks and seven kills.

Lilly Fulghum distributed 18 assists and accumulated four digs on defense. Addy Higginbotham supplied five digs and four kills. Eva Quintanilla continued her consistent play with six kills, four service aces and two blocks.

Marissa Bernal registered a season-high nine digs. Madison Holmes contributed four digs.

North Duplin hit .043 for the match and recorded 42 digs as a team. The Rebels (6-7 overall, 2-4 Carolina 1A) return home Tuesday to face Lakewood.

Neuse Charter (10-6, 6-0) improved to 26-0 against Carolina 1A opposition since 2021. The Cougars extended their win streak to 10 over the Rebels.
