DUDLEY — Miguel Campuzano tallied the game-tying goal and helped Southern Wayne salvage a 4-4, double-overtime draw against Quad County 3A boys’ soccer rival Fike Wednesday evening.

Campuzano scored twice for the Saints, who led 2-1 at halftime and trailed 4-3 after the first OT session.

Cesar Espinoza and Daniel Velasquez provided one goal apiece.

Bryan Velasquez dished out an assist.

Southern Wayne (8-3-1 overall, 3-2-1 QCC) begins a three-match road swing Monday at county rival Charles B. Aycock, which is the reigning QCC champ. The Golden Falcons have won six straight against the Saints with five outcomes decided by one goal.

Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. at Hardy Talton Stadium in Pikeville.

Saints’ netters fall to Spartans

SMITHFIELD — Charity Van Dyke received player-of-the-match accolades during Southern Wayne’s 6-3 loss to Quad County 3A girls’ tennis rival Smithfield-Selma on Wednesday afternoon.

“Another great battle today,” SW head coach David Van Dyke said.

Charity Van Dyke prevailed 6-3, 6-3 over Anne Bass at No. 1 singles. The sophomore picked up her second victory of the season.

Third-seeded Allya Segura claimed a 6-4, 6-3 decision over Kathryn Taylor at No. 3 singles.

The No. 2 doubles of Amy Lemus-Juliana Leon knocked off the Spartans’ tandem of Anyia Richardson-Lillian Mizner, 8-6. Lemus-Leon improved to 2-5 this season.

Southern Wayne (2-10 overall, 2-10 QCC) visits Fike next Monday.

Rosewood shuts out North Duplin

Goalies Isaias Santos Santander and Logan Wood combined for 21 saves during North Duplin’s 6-0 loss to two-time defending Carolina 1A boys’ soccer champ Rosewood on Wednesday evening.

Santander logged 18 saves in 53 minutes. Wood notched three saves during 27 minutes between the pipes.

Victor Lara Mara attempted the Rebels’ lone shot on goal.

North Duplin (2-6-2 overall, 0-3-1 Carolina 1A) returns home Monday to face league-leading Hobbton. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at H.E. Grubbs Field.

Panthers blank Gators

BEULAVILLE — Short-handed Spring Creek dropped a 9-0, non-conference decision to East Duplin in girls’ tennis action Wednesday afternoon.

The Gators competed with just five players, and defaulted two matches – one each in singles and doubles play.

Spring Creek (6-3 overall) concludes regular-season play Oct. 2 at Neuse Six 2A rival Goldsboro. The doubleheader is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Herman Park.
