GOLDSBORO — Southern Wayne continued its recent mastery over county volleyball rival Eastern Wayne with a 25-14, 25-14, 25-18 victory Monday evening.
The Saints claimed their fourth consecutive win over the Warriors.
Taylor Lee doled out 13 assists and served two aces. Fellow setter Kara Davis provided four assists, three kills and two aces.
Jy’Asha Cousins registered nine kills and four blocks. Amya Smith cranked out five kills. Mylee Wiggs contributed five aces and two blocks.
Lesley Elizalde served two aces, while Ilescia Warner had two kills.
Southern Wayne held Eastern Wayne to a .122 hitting percentage and took advantage of 50-plus unforced errors – serving, attacking and ball-handling.
The Warriors had 39 digs as a team.
Southern Wayne (8-7 overall) visit Quad County 3A foe West Johnston today, while Eastern Wayne (3-12) is the guest of county and Neuse Six 2A rival Goldsboro.
Spartans trip up Saints
DUDLEY — Southern Wayne endured a 5-3 loss to Smithfield-Selma on the Quad County 3A boys’ soccer scene Monday evening.
Miguel Campuzano tallied two goals for the Saints, who fell to 8-3-0 overall and 4-2-0 in QCC matters. Daniel Vasquez notched one goal.
Southern Wayne entertains Fike on Wednesday. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex.
SW netters drop road outing
FOUR OAKS — Senior Allya Segura earned player-of-the-match honors during Southern Wayne’s 9-0 loss to Quad County 3A girls’ tennis rival South Johnston on Monday afternoon.
Segura, the No. 3 singles seed, dropped a 7-5, 6-0 decision to Trojans junior Rachel Brewer.
Top-seeded Charity Van Dyke, second-seeded Amy Lemus, fifth-seeded Ameya Randolph and sixth-seeded Yeimi Sanchez Martinez each played solid a singles match.
The Saints (2-8 overall, 2-8 QCC) and Trojans (8-3, 7-3) meet again today in Dudley. First serve is 3:30 p.m.
