FOUR OAKS — Daniel Velasquez registered a hat trick (three goals) and collected an assist during Southern Wayne’s 7-1 romp over Quad County 3A boys’ soccer foe South Johnston Wednesday evening.

Brian Hernandez, Cesar Espinoza, Luis Velasquez and Miguel Campuzano supplied one goal apiece. Velasquez, Jesus Giron Castillo and Campuzano each doled out an assist.Junior goalie Joey Segura recorded seven saves.

Southern Wayne (8-2-0 overall, 2-1-0 QCC) entertains Smithfield-Selma next Monday. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex.

Gators dominate Bruins

SEVEN SPRINGS — Spring Creek celebrated senior night with a doubleheader sweep, 5-0 and 9-0, over Neuse Six 2A girls’ tennis foe Beddingfield Wednesday afternoon.

Prior to the match, Gators head coach Robert Jones recognized his five seniors – — Emily Williams, Janice Lopez, Emma Gainey, Linna Kornegay and Katelynn Harrison.

Williams, Lopez, Gainey, Harrison and sophomore Emilia West each filed a 2-0 worksheet against the Bruins. Kornegay emerged victorious in singles during the second match.

The doubles of Lopez-Harrison, Gainey-Kornegay and Kennedy Denton-Emma Scott Hardy each picked up a doubles point. Denton-Hardy posted an 8-0 shutout, while Gainey-Kornegay squeezed by 8-6 at the No. 2 flight.

Spring Creek (5-2 overall, 4-2 Neuse Six 2A) returns home Monday to face former Carolina 1A rival Rosewood. First serve is 4 p.m.

Rebels tie Leopards

SALEMBURG — Sophomore forward Victor Lara Mata punched in two goals during North Duplin’s 3-3, extra-time draw against Carolina 1A boys’ soccer rival Lakewood on Wednesday evening.

Senior Crismy Gonzalez-Vasquez also scored for the Rebels, who led 2-1 at halftime.

The teams entered extra time tied at 3-3, but neither could find the back of the net during the two 10-minute sessions.

North Duplin goalie Isaias Santos Santander collected 15 saves.

The Rebels (2-4-2 overall, 0-1-1 Carolina 1A) return home Monday to face Union. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at H.E. Grubbs Field.

Gators fall to Bulldogs

TEACHEY — Perennial boys’ soccer powerhouse Wallace-Rose Hill handed Spring Creek a 6-1, non-conference loss on Wednesday evening.

Marin Lopez supplied Spring Creek’s lone goal.

Joseph Antonio Vasquez logged nine saves for the Gators, who had their modest, two-game win streak snapped.

Spring Creek (4-8-0 overall) launches defense of its Neuse Six 2A regular-season title at home Tuesday against North Johnston. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at “The Swamp.”

Warriors roll over Saints

DUDLEY — Amy Lemus earned player-of-the-match honors during Southern Wayne’s 9-0 loss to Hunt on the Quad County 3A girls’ tennis scene Wednesday afternoon.

Lemus, a senior, dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Hunt sophomore Callie Mooring at No. 2 singles.

Saints sophomore Charity Van Dyke endured a 6-3, 6-0 loss to junior Reagan Owen at No. 1 singles.

The sophomore tandem of Kylie Hyde-Ameya Randolph fell 8-2 to the Warriors’ Kaitlyn Hansen-Darby Davis at No. 3 doubles.

Southern Wayne (2-7 overall, 2-7 QCC) travels to South Johnston on Monday. The teams meet in Dudley on Tuesday.
