CALYPSO — North Duplin and Lejeune battled to a 1-1 draw during their non-conference boys’ soccer match played at H.E. Grubbs Field Thursday evening.
Senior Crismy Gonzalez-Vazquez tallied the Rebels’ lone goal on an assist from sophomore Logan Wood. Gonzalez-Vazquez boosted his season total to seven goals.
The Rebels attempted 14 shots on goal.
Keeper Isaias Santos Santander recorded seven saves for North Duplin, which improved to 9-1-1 against the Devilpups since 2015.
The Rebels (2-3-1 overall) open their Carolina 1A schedule Monday at Neuse Charter.
Rebels handle Leopards
SALEMBURG — Reece Outlaw and Addy Higginbotham each flirted with a double-double during North Duplin’s 21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-12 triumph over Carolina 1A volleyball rival Lakewood Thursday evening.
Outlaw provided eight kills, 14 digs and served three aces. Higginbotham contributed seven kills, 10 digs and three aces. The duo helped the Rebels claim their third consecutive victory over the Leopards and just the fourth overall in 30 meetings since 2009.
Setter Lilly Fulghum doled out 23 assists and registered five digs.
The Rebels had 50 digs as a team.
Eva Quintanilla cranked out six kills.
North Duplin (5-4 overall, 1-1 Carolina 1A) entertains Union next Tuesday.
Saints sweep Golden Demons
DUDLEY — Karlie Lane collected a team-leading 12 digs defensively during Southern Wayne’s 25-9, 25-22, 25-13 conquest of Quad County 3A volleyball rival Fike on Thursday evening.
Jy’Asha Cousins recorded six kills and six blocks. Amya Smith chipped in three kills and three blocks, while Ilescia Warner posted three blocks.
Taylor Lee handed out 11 assists and collected five digs. Kara Davis supplied five aces and five assists. Mylee Wiggs contributed four kills, four aces and seven digs.
Gracie Hinson tallied four kills and three digs.
Southern Wayne (6-5 overall, 3-3 QCC) entertains Rosewood on Monday and begins a four-game road swing in QCC play Tuesday at county rival Charles B. Aycock.
