SEVEN SPRINGS — Spring Creek swept a doubleheader, 6-0 and 8-0, against Princeton on the Neuse Six 2A girls’ tennis scene Monday afternoon.

Emily Williams, Janice Lopez, Emma Gainey, Linna Kornegay, Kennedy Denton and Katelynn Harrison each concluded the day with 2-0 worksheets. Williams and Denton posted two shutouts apiece.

Harrison earned two walkover points. The Bulldogs had just five players in the lineup.

Williams-Denton and Harrison-Emilia West each pulled out a tight contest in doubles during the second match..

Spring Creek (3-2 overall, 2-2 Neuse Six) entertains Beddingfield next Tuesday. First serve is 4 p.m.

Golden Falcons defeat Saints’ netters

DUDLEY — It might have been a 9-0 result, but Southern Wayne challenged county and Quad County 3A girls’ tennis rival Charles B. Aycock on every singles and doubles court Monday afternoon.

“They sure did battle,” Saints head coach David Van Dyke said.

Fourth-seeded Juliana Leon, a senior, emerged victorious 7-5 in the opening set against CBA’s Aubrey Edmundson. However, Edmundson took the second set 6-2 and won the tiebreaker 10-5.

In doubles, the Saints’ No. 1 tandem of Charity Van Dyke-Allya Segura endured a nail-biting 9-8 (5) loss to Allie Gray-Laura Moore. The Saints’ No. 2 duo of Leon-Amy Lemus fell 8-6 to Edmundson-Aubrey Pitt.

Southern Wayne (0-5 overall, 0-5 QCC) continues conference play Wednesday at East Wake. C.B. Aycock (3-5, 2-4) is the guest of Northern Nash today.

Clinton shuts out Spring Creek

SEVEN SPRINGS — Perennial 2A boys’ soccer power Clinton protected its lead with stellar defense and dealt Spring Creek a 1-0 loss on Monday evening.

Junior Seavy Jordan tallied the Dark Horses’ lone goal off of an assist from junior midfielder Griffin Williams.

Goalie Edgar Javier Avila-Anguiano defended the net for the Gators, who slipped to 2-7 overall this season.

Spring Creek entertains county rival Rosewood Wednesday. Kickoff is 6 p.m. in “The Swamp.”
