GOLDSBORO — Regan Stribble emerged as the medalist runner-up and Southern Wayne finished first overall in a Wayne-Johnston non-conference girls’ golf meet contested at Goldsboro Golf Course on Thursday afternoon.
Stribble’s nine-hole round of 46 included three pars and one birdie. The sophomore finished behind Wayne Country Day’s Carsyn Roberts, who posted a 1-under-par 35.
The Saints’ Laura Summerlin recorded three pars and placed third individually with a 53. Teammate Catie Schallert completed Southern Wayne’s three-player team total of 158 with a round of 59.
Chloe Sullivan turned in a 61.
“Catie hung in there and grinded out a tough day,” SW head coach Trae McKee said. “Chloe shot her personal-best [score] of the season.”
Saints edge Tigers
WARSAW — Joey Segura notched 12 saves between the pipes and helped lead Southern Wayne to a 3-2, non-conference triumph over James Kenan at Bill Taylor Field Wednesday evening.
Osbaldo Avila, Danilo Morales and Daniel Velasquez collected one goal apiece. Miguel Campuzano and Alfredo Alvarado each doled out one assist.
The Saints (5-1-0 overall) open their 2023 Quad County 3A campaign at home Monday against East Wake. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. at the Doyle Whitfield Athletic Complex.
Kenan knocks off Panthers
KENLY — James Kenan claimed a 3-1, non-conference road victory over North Johnston in boys’ soccer action Thursday afternoon.

The Tigers (2-2-1 overall) return home Monday for their East Central 2A opener against East Duplin. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at Bill Taylor Field.
Trojans sweep Saints
FOUR OAKS — South Johnston dealt Southern Wayne a 25-19, 25-22, 25-21 loss in Quad County 3A volleyball action Thursday afternoon.
Junior setter Taylor Lee handed out 10 assists, while Kara Davis provided nine assists and five digs on defense. Gracie Hinson notched seven digs, while Karlie Lane posted eight digs.
Mylee Wiggs recorded seven kills and a team-high 10 digs. Jy’Asha Cousins supplied eight kills and six solo blocks. Ilescia Warner registered three solo blocks. Amya Smith had four block assists.
The Saints (4-4 overall, 1-3 QCC) look to snap a three-game skid Monday at Rosewood. The JV match starts at 4 p.m.
