GOLDSBORO — Southern Wayne pulled out a tight third set and knocked off county volleyball foe Goldsboro 25-18, 25-12, 26-24 inside Norvell T. Lee Gym on Thursday evening.
Setter Taylor Lee notched 17 assists, five digs and two service aces.
Jy’Asha Cousins cranked out a team-leading 10 kills and recorded two solo blocks. Mylee Wiggs registered five kills and team-high 10 digs.
Amya Smith supplied five kills.
Kara Davis stuffed her stat sheet with two aces, three digs and six assists. Ilescia Warner (four solo blocks) and Katie Lane (eight digs) also played well in the three-set sweep.
Directed by second-year head coach Hannah Sladick, the Saints (2-1 overall) launch their Quad County 3A campaign at home against East Wake next Tuesday. Match time is 5 p.m.
Panthers escape Rebels in five sets
BEULAVILLE — North Duplin’s modest two-match win streak ended with a 13-25, 27-25, 11-25, 29-27, 7-15 loss against county volleyball rival East Duplin on Thursday afternoon.
Reece Outlaw led the Rebels with 10 digs, five block assists, three service aces and nine digs.
Sophomore Marissa Bernal provided three digs, while Meghan Martin contributed three block assists. Addy Higginbotham contributed seven digs and five kills.
Lilly Fulghum logged 15 assists and five digs.
North Duplin (2-2 overall) visits country rival James Kenan next Tuesday. First serve is 5 p.m. at Harmon Gym.
