CALYPSO — Coming off its best athletic season in recent memory, North Duplin finished second overall in the 2022-23 Wells Fargo Carolina 1A Conference Cup competition.

The Rebels amassed 587.5 points that included regular-season titles in boys’ cross country, girls’ basketball, softball and baseball. ND claimed league tournament crowns in girls’ basketball, softball and baseball.

Rosewood claimed the Cup with 692.5 points. The Eagles emerged as the conference champs in football, girls’ cross country, boys’ soccer, boys’ golf and baseball.

Sampson County rivals Hobbton (577.5 points) and Lakewood (525.5) wound up third and fourth, respectively. Neuse Charter, the regular-season and tournament champ in volleyball, placed fifth with 442.5 points.

Union ended up sixth at 322.5.

Quad County 3A

DUDLEY — Southern Wayne secured seventh place with 545.2 points.

The Saints emerged as the QCC runners-up and tournament champions in girls’ basketball. Boys’ basketball placed among the top four in regular-season play.

Fike won the Cup by 20 points, 815-795, over West Johnston. The Golden Demons wrapped up QCC titles in girls’ cross country, girls’ football, girls’ basketball and boys’ and girls’ tennis.

South Johnston collected 722.5 points with league crowns in softball and baseball. Charles B. Aycock ended up fourth with 712.5 points after it earned regular-season co-QCC championships in football and boys’ basketball.

Hunt (707.5) and East Wake (647.5) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.

Smithfield-Selma, the co-champion in football, rounded out the eight-team conference with 422.5.

Neuse Six 2A

SEVEN SPRINGS — Spring Creek seized co-ownership of the boys’ soccer regular-season championship — its 10th title overall in program history.

The Gators compiled 410 points.

Princeton added the Cup to its overflowing trophy case with 650 points that included league crowns in football, volleyball, boys’ swimming and diving, wrestling and girls’ outdoor track and field.

County arch rival North Johnston placed second with 610 points.

Goldsboro (575), Eastern Wayne (505) and Beddingfield (500) each finished ahead of Spring Creek.

East Central 2A

WARSAW — James Kenan placed among the top three teams during football season and tallied 310 points.

Southwest Onslow outscored East Duplin, 662.5-627.5, for Cup supremacy. The Stallions posted top finishes in girls’ basketball, wrestling, girls’ soccer and shared the baseball regular-season title.

East Duplin brought the 2022 NCHSAA state 2A football championship to Beaulaville. The Panthers shared second place with South Lenoir in baseball.

Baseball co-champion North Lenoir turned in a third-place effort with 575 points. South Lenoir (510), Wallace-Rose Hill (445) and Kinston (395) took positions four through six, respectively, in the standings.

In most conferences, points are awarded on the criteria of participation and final standings in conference play. Each conference determines its own method of awarding points.
