The water to all of Mount Olive will be cut off from 8 p.m. Sunday to sometime Monday morning to repair a major water leak in front of Roberts Machine Shop on N.C. 55 West. The cutoff will include the Smith Chapel and Southern Wayne Country Club areas.
A boil water advisory will be in place until water sample results come back Tuesday.
Initially, town officials had said water would be cut off in the Western areas of town.
“Hopefully it will be complete by 5 a.m. Monday morning or sooner, said Jeremy King, the town’s utilities director. “This (town-wide cutoff) is due to not having proper valves in place for isolation. I really hate we have to do (it) this way but I have no other way to do it.
“When that 12-inch line was laid back in the 60s, Breazeale Avenue was only two lane and over the years it became four lane with a turn lane put in as well. In that process they paved over any valves that might would have been a help in isolating this issue. With that being said, there will be a boil water advisory set in place until the sample results come back Tuesday.”
