CALYPSO — Reece Outlaw, a rising senior at North Duplin, committed to play softball at the University of North Carolina on Tuesday.

She decommitted from East Carolina earlier this month.

“Super excited to announce my commitment to UNC Chapel Hill,” Outlaw said on her Twitter account. “Extremely grateful for the coaching staff for giving me this opportunity and helping me find my future home! Go Heels!

“Forever grateful for that staff [at ECU] and all that they did for me. I know that God has a different plan for me and I trust him all the way.”

Outlaw helped lead the Rebels to a runner-up finish in the 2023 N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1A state championship series. She earned all-district and all-state recognition from the NC Fastpitch Coaches Association.

The multi-sport athlete batted .635 and set single-season records in runs scored (60), hits (61), RBI (50) and home runs (14). She is now the program’s all-time career leader in those four categories.
