FAISON — Want to escape those summer time blues?Tired of gaming?

Eager to develop your sports skills or try something new?

Faison Recreation Parks and Department has it all this summer, according to director Matt Scott.

Two camps concluded this week, but don’t fret. There are 15 additional camps slated for June, July and early August.

“We’ve done the best we can for the past two years to provide something that’s for everybody throughout the whole summer … give our community everything they deserve,” Scott said.

“These days, it’s really important because so many kids sit at home and end up playing video games and stuff like that. Getting out and getting active is really important.”

Included among the camp instructors are North Duplin coaches Heather Best (volleyball) and Nick Nielsen (JV boys’ basketball). Rebel alumni and multi-sport athletes Luis Villalon, Marcus Kornegay and India Elliott will share their knowledge in sports they excelled in during high school.

Kickball Days is planned from July 31-Aug. 4. On the final day, campers can indulge in the normal summer fare — snacks, hotdogs and drinks. They’ll also get to cool down on a waterslide.

Scott anticipates an exciting and fun-filled End of Summer Bash on Aug. 19. The celebration begins at 10 a.m. and is open to everyone.
