GOLDSBORO — This week, Spring Creek Elementary students won the Region 2 Elementary Battle of the Books competition. The team qualified for the Region 2 Competition after winning the WCPS Elementary Battle of the Books Competition in March. The competition was held at Morehead Elementary School in Morehead City.

Sponsored by the North Carolina School Library Media Association, the Elementary School Battle of the Books is a quiz bowl style competition that encourages reading. Contestants, who are in grades 4-5, must read 15 books chosen by a statewide committee, and the competition tests students’ comprehension of the books.

“The coaches and their students are to be commended for their hard work, and for representing Wayne County Public Schools so well,” states Christy White, WCPS Title IV Enrichment Facilitator.

The Battle of the Books program is coordinated by the Media Center program at participating schools. The regional competition is the highest level of competition in the North Carolina Elementary Battle of the Books program.
